The Senior Field Technician – Environmental Services is a full-time hourly permanent position located in Carlsbad, NM reporting to the Field Operations Supervisor – Environmental Services. Senior The Field Technician – Environmental Services is an experienced field role for technicians who can perform environmental surveys and sampling with independence and technical proficiency. Senior Field Technicians apply their field knowledge to carry out assignments with minimal supervision, ensure data quality, and provide mentorship to Field Technicians to support skill development and consistency in field practices. The Senior Field Technician- Environmental Services will accomplish a wide variety of client needs including but not limited to:
- Conduct natural resource surveys (wildlife, plant, karst, hydrology, etc.)
- Conduct environmental compliance monitoring (trench monitoring, spill monitoring, etc.)
- Collect and process environmental samples (water, soil, biological) with minimal supervision
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of field records and data
- Support preparation of technical summaries or contribute data to reports
- Set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot instruments and equipment independently
- Independently perform preventative maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Fabricate and troubleshoot equipment and systems as needed in the field
- Transport equipment and supplies using trucks and trailers as necessary
- Mentor Field Technicians to develop field skills and ensure consistency in data collection and safety practices
- Collaborate with leadership and peers to improve field efficiency and solve problems
- Adhere to correct procedures and health and safety policies
- Other duties as assigned
This is an experienced level position. The hourly rate range for this position is $27.00/hr. to $36.00/hr. Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Two Years of Relevant Professional Experience
- Ability to work long hours in the field with potentially undesirable conditions.
- Ability to hike up to 5 miles a day.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Environmental Science, Wildlife Science, Ecology, Biology, Geology, or related fields
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS
- Experience with plant and wildlife surveys
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required
- Experience with biological or geological surveys
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and set priorities
- Proficiency in collecting, processing, and quality-checking environmental and biological data
- Ability to ensure accuracy of field records and contribute to report preparation
- Ability to ensure safe practices and mentor others on field safety
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving in dynamic field conditions
Preferred
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of UTVs
- Ability to pull and back up a trailer
- Experience with technical writing
- Experience with ArcGIS for mapping and data visualization
